Becoming…

SomebodyUSA

A child’s imagination is perhaps the closest thing to the imagination and creativity we attribute to God, our Creator—more than at any other stage of human life. New, curious, and truthfully open to the things that many will eventually succumb to as adults, children are literal wells of fascination, experimentation, and continual learning.

Unfortunately, because of societal pressure, their creativity will sputter, stall, and eventually be completely lost as they age. Until then, their fantasy allows them to understand the world on their own terms and at their own pace. And although we may not understand it from an adult perspective, they do—and so does God.

As children grow, they will be (for lack of a better word) indoctrinated to believe that fantasy, pretending, and—dare I say—daydreaming are absolutely not beneficial to their own or anyone else’s existence. Artists, writers, story tellers and even future inventors are too often boxed in, beginning as early as elementary school.

The world has a way of reprogramming children to believe that their God-given talent, present from birth, is an unwelcome anomaly—to be put away, hidden, unwanted, and unallowed, except in quiet, solitary moments. In those quiet times, there is no one to chastise them out loud to “pay attention,” “get your head out of the clouds,” “stop playing,” or “stop pretending.”

Fortunately, God blessed many with a life where magination, fantasy, and wonder, eventually became part of who they were created to be, against inconceivable odds and through faith and support of those who saw their ability and helped them find their path.

This is the story of my being and becoming Somebody with the help of all of the Somebody’s who helped me “become” and how much my “being” who I am has helped others to eventually “become” who they are as well. May your be encouraged in your own journey of being and becoming “Somebody”

Ephesians 2:10 — “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
